You Didn't Buy Your Ormond By the Sea Home to Stay Inside

You invested in the patio. The lanai. The view.

But somehow, you're not the one enjoying it.

Ormond By the Sea sits directly on Florida's Atlantic barrier island — one of the quietest, most sought-after stretches of coastline in Volusia County. The no-drive beach keeps it that way. But that direct ocean exposure is also exactly why unprotected outdoor spaces here take a beating that inland Florida never sees. Salt air works against every surface year-round. The ocean breeze that makes the evenings beautiful carries persistent humidity. No-see-ums and mosquitoes move in off the Halifax River corridor every evening from spring through fall. And when a named storm approaches this stretch of coast, there is no natural buffer between your patio and the Atlantic.

You chose Ormond By the Sea for the quiet coastal life. Your outdoor space should protect it.

It doesn't have to be this way. One button changes everything.

WHY FLORIDA LIVING OUTDOOR...?

At Florida Living Outdoor, we specialize in enhancing, expanding, and protecting outdoor living spaces for DeLand homeowners — making them more functional and enjoyable through every Florida season. Whether it's a screened lanai near Blue Lake, a pergola-covered patio in the Garden District, or a full outdoor room in one of Deland's newer communities like Victoria Oaks or Addison Landing, we bring solutions built for Volusia County's heat, humidity, and storm season.

We install the products that actually win their job. For Category-5 hurricane protection, the MaxForce Hurricane Screen by Fenetex — rated for 185+ MPH winds, single-button deploy, engineered for Florida's most demanding storm conditions. For everyday shade, insect, UV, and privacy protection, OneTrack motorized screens — built with a patented self-adjusting tension system, welded seams, and UV-stable fabrics designed for long-term Florida exposure.

For the full picture of outdoor living in Deland — Sun Pro awnings, Azenco-Outdoor pergolas, Greenwood Fence, and Garden LED lighting — all under one veteran-owned roof. Every installation is completed by our in-house crews. Never subcontracted. Always backed by a 3-year craftsmanship warranty.

Florida Living Outdoors Solutions

Dual Specialties

Residential Solutions

Deland homes carry character — historic architecture in the Garden District, newer builds in growing subdivisions, and everything in between. What they share is an outdoor space that should be working harder. Whether you're a long-time DeLand resident protecting a home you've invested years in, or a newcomer drawn here by the city's growth and charm, your patio, lanai, or backyard deserves to be functional in every season.

From screened lanais and poolside cabanas to pergola-covered patios and garage screen conversions, we design motorized screen and shade solutions around how Deland families and retirees actually use their homes. We build systems that handle the bugs, the heat, and the storms — so your outdoor space becomes the retreat your property was always meant to offer.

Commercial Solutions

Deland's historic downtown and its rapidly expanding commercial corridors are drawing more restaurants, event venues, and businesses that depend on outdoor spaces to compete. A shaded restaurant patio that closes in July, or an event venue that goes dark every storm season, is a direct hit to the bottom line in a city that's growing this fast.

Florida Living Outdoor brings premium motorized screen and shade solutions to Deland's commercial properties. Fenetex MaxForce hurricane screens, OneTrack motorized systems, Sun Pro awnings, and Azenco pergola structures — engineered for the durability, code compliance, and year-round performance that Volusia County commercial spaces require. Your outdoor area should generate revenue every month of the year. We make that possible.

ENOUGH ABOUT US

HERE ARE 5 THINGS FL OUTDOOR LOVES ABOUT ORMOND BY THE SEA

Other than building great outdoor projects, here's what we love most about this community.

1. The Birthplace of Speed — Before Daytona
Before Daytona International Speedway existed, before NASCAR was a word, automobile racing happened right here. Starting in 1902, speed pioneers including Ransom Olds and Alexander Winton raced their machines on the hard-packed sand from Ormond south through Daytona. The American Automobile Association brought official timing equipment in 1903 and gave this stretch of beach its permanent nickname: the Birthplace of Speed. Daytona gets the Speedway. Ormond gets the original.

2. The Casements — Rockefeller's Winter Home
John D. Rockefeller — once the wealthiest person in American history — chose Ormond Beach as his winter retreat. The Casements, his former residence along the Halifax River, now serves as the city's cultural center, offering tours, gardens, and a year-round calendar of community events. It's a piece of American Gilded Age history sitting quietly on Granada Boulevard, open to anyone who walks through the door.

3. Tomoka State Park
Three miles north of downtown sits Tomoka State Park — 2,000 acres of Old Florida wilderness along the Tomoka River, home to more than 160 bird species and accessible by kayak, canoe, hiking trail, and fishing dock. The ancient Timucuan village of Nocoroco once stood on this land. Today it's one of the most peaceful state parks on Florida's east coast, and Ormond By the Sea residents have it essentially as a backyard.

4. The Fairchild Oak
Tucked along Bulow Creek State Park near the Ormond Scenic Loop, the Fairchild Oak is one of the largest live oak trees in the American South — estimated at over 400 years old, with a canopy that stretches wide enough to feel like its own ecosystem. It's the kind of tree that makes you stop talking and just look. Ormond residents know exactly where it is. Most of the rest of Florida has never heard of it.

5. The No-Drive Beach
While Daytona Beach allows cars on its sand, Ormond By the Sea's beach is car-free — quieter, cleaner, and far less crowded. It's the detail that residents mention first when someone asks why they chose this stretch of coast over everywhere else. The waves are consistent enough that a serious surf culture has been here since the early 1980s — locals still know it as OBC. The beach is the reason people come. The quiet is the reason they stay.

Outdoor Living Explained

Real Advice From 26 Years of Florida Outdoor Living

Ormond By the Sea homeowners chose one of the most distinctive coastal addresses in Volusia County — a quiet, no-drive barrier island that sits apart from the bustle of Daytona while still carrying every outdoor challenge that direct Atlantic exposure delivers. Salt air degrades unprotected materials faster here than almost anywhere inland. The same ocean-facing orientation that gives these homes their views also puts them directly in the path of whatever storm season sends up the coast. And with the Halifax River corridor just to the west, insect pressure from the water compounds what the ocean already brings.

FL Outdoor News covers all of it — practical guides written for Florida homeowners by the team that installs these systems on Volusia County's Atlantic coast every week. What holds up in a salt air environment. What to do before hurricane season to protect an outdoor space worth protecting. And how to make your Ormond By the Sea patio work the way the view deserves.
