The city's motto is "Preserving the Past, Planning the Future," and its historic districts along Barton Avenue and Rockledge Drive contain some of the finest examples of late 19th and early 20th century Florida residential architecture still standing in the region.

Built on the Indian River's Western Shore: Rockledge was established as a riverfront settlement along the Indian River Lagoon, and that waterfront identity has defined the city for nearly 140 years. The Indian River Lagoon running along Rockledge's eastern edge is the most biodiverse estuary in North America — home to over 4,300 species of plants and animals, including manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, and over 300 bird species. Living in Rockledge means living beside one of the most ecologically significant waterways in the United States.

3. Florida's First Citrus Industry Grew Here: Rockledge and the surrounding Indian River corridor were the birthplace of Florida's commercial citrus industry.
